Madonna rocks. What a fantastic night we had!
Fall baseball brought some big changes for Daniel including a new team. I never really talked much about the end of Daniel’s spring/summer season b/c quite frankly, it was really hard to think about. Without going into too much detail, the season ended with Daniel’s confidence shattered and the love for baseball just about gone. Battered and bruised is an understatement. Back then, I could not say with certainty that he would return to the baseball field.
Daniel has always played ‘up’ in baseball b/c his birthday is in Sept. He was a good year, almost 1 1/2 years younger than some of the team. This year was a significant jump to the bigger field and given how the season ended, we decided to make the move down to the age appropriate team.
Daniel was really nervous about joining the team and b/c his confidence was gone, he wasn’t convinced he was good enough to be on the team. Lots of talks later, the 1st game finally came. His second at bat, he hit a homerun!!!!!! Not only that, he played every inning, postions he hasn’t seen in years…catcher, pitcher, shortstop. A new child walked off the field that night and we were beginning to see the old Daniel come back with a spark in his eye and a bounce in his step.
PJ played his heart out and was rewarded with the honor of becoming the 1st MVP on his team :) . Certainly was a surprise to all of us, esp. with him being a new member of the team. Here’s what the coach’s email had to say:
nerves quickly gave way to the desire to get the ball.
1st game of the regular travel team season…PJ was filled w/ anxiety and nervousness about not playing well. It’s written all over his face in pregame warmups.
Still wringing his hands awaiting the whistle for the game to begin.
